Instead of a misspent youth, I worked in a local municipal library throughout my undergrad degree. Yes, I was that girl. Locum for anyone on leave, off sick etc.
Dewey decimal system forever 💪 and let’s not even mention the extra books allowed on my library card as a staff member! Bonus!!
When the trend of organising bookshelves by colour as opposed to alphabetically took hold of everyone, I could simply not do it.
It went against all my literary standards and the thought hurt my heart. But one day, I did it. I did the colour thing and it looked beautiful, for about an hour …
Then it began bugging me. My Dean Koontz books were all over the place and let’s not even talk about the Patricia Cornwells. I know! Shocking!
It lasted less than a week. Now we are back to alphabetical, by author’s surname, as it should be. Sanity has prevailed and my little librarian heart is at peace once more.

My sons are sports mad so I often find myself on the side of the training field, Astro, rugby field, swimming pool, dam etc.
This morning it is hockey for the 14yo and rugby for the 11yo. We generally have to get there well before the games start so of course my trusty Kindle is always along for the ride.
Although we are moving into winter in South Africa, the sun is still showing off so here I am, Kindle in hand, waiting for the match to start.
Today I am starting the latest in the Genevieve Lenard series, by Estelle Ryan. I have read every single book in the series and I just love them.
Art theft, art history, adventures and thrills. Diverse characters that make me smile and laugh and the lead character is so intriguing. She is neurodivergent and it is incredible to read her perspectives as well as how her friends accept and adapt to her unique style and personality.
Love the series!
Another great book about books, with fantasy and some romance added. Again, the romance did not overwhelm the story itself and the story itself is just so magnificent.
A lost manuscript, the Brontë sisters, a magical bookshop, an eccentric old lady and so many enticing literary themes had me seriously wondering if I could give up my day job, move to Dublin and study literature full time.
The story takes place in 2 different time periods and is told from the perspectives of 2 incredible women making their own paths despite trauma and hardship.
Really really beautiful.
